About the Author
Richard Fleming has degrees from Northwest Missouri State and Florida State University, including a doctorate in mathematics. After forty-two years as a professor of mathematics at the University of Missouri, the University of Memphis, and Central Michigan University, he retired and began to indulge a lifelong love of history. He lives in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, with his wife Diane.

Did not want the book to end.

This is a delightfully told story of the life of an influential American frontiersman. The author has made the story so fascinating, you'll not want the book to end.

Good use of understatements

Thoroughly researched. Conversationally written. Good use of understatements. Underbook was a valuable edition to assist the reader in what was fact and what was fiction. I had not expected the book to be about 900 pages, The book is really a series of short stories and can be read in short segments without breaking the main story line. I think it will well received by those that are fascinated by and familiar with the Lew Wetzel saga. Sexual content is cleverly left to the readers imagination. The author's lifelong fascination with Lew Wetzel is obvious in how thoroughly the topic was researched. A good check off on his bucket list.

An Eye Opening Novel into an Era Often Overlooked

What a treat. I started reading and couldn't put it down. Richard Fleming has done an excellent job of researching the facts and blending them with just the right amount of fiction and conjecture. Even without the "Underbook," I was able to recognize the history in e story. Wetzel was able to allow me the privilege of stepping back to an era that is really hard to understand. I was able to live the frustration of Native attacks with the knowledge that retribution would only escalate the problem. I appreciate the dilemma as a result of reading this well written work. Congratulations to Dr. Fleming on creating a book that is educational, enlightening, and exciting to read. I will read it again in a while in order to catch the things I missed as a result of reading it too fast the first time. The price may keep some from purchasing the book but with over 900 pages, it is worth the investment.
