Almost perfect - Powerful biography of the Final Prophet (PBUH)

Yahya Emerick has written a masterful and gripping account of the incredible life led by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His ability to keep the reader interested at all times is the key to this book. He keeps matters simple yet accurate without getting lost in the overwhelming topic literature that exists out there. Just like another reviewer mentioned earlier I too felt like I was right there with the Prophet (pbuh) and his Companions. The tone and the content are consistent and give a fair, balanced view of the background that led to many events. A classic example of the author's writing ability is displayed in the inspiring and almost poetic narration of Al-Miraj and Al-Isra. The book also maintains its balance while educating the reader regarding the Prophet's personal, spiritual, political and uniquely influential life.

The only section of the book that deviates from this incredible uniformity stretches roughly from page 154-160. The content here regarding the prelude to the Battle of Badr (missed attempts at attacking Abu Sufyan's loaded Meccan caravan) and the Prophet's actions is rather questionable in light of the authentic material available on the matter. This very small but crucial part of the book seems out of place as it ascribes actions far less than prophetic to one (the Prophet) who had such a close relationship with God and His angel Gabriel.

Overall this is the finest account of the Prophet's life that I've read so far; far more interesting than Martin Lings' book and far superior to the book from Karen Armstrong. Highly recommended.

Must Read:
This is a definite "Must Read" for all Muslims, not just converts.
He writes with sensitivity beyond what one usually finds in a biographical work. I did find,in reading this, many of the passages in the Quran became clearer.
I had set out to read only religious material during the month of Ramadan and this was the first book I chose. After reading it, through my local library, I immediately went into Amazon.com and bought the book. I did this with the next book I read also. That is "In The Footsteps Of The Prophet." If you want to see what I thought of that one, then check out my review when they send me the request to do so. :)
Br. Emerick is a marvelous writer. I am now going to write my review of his "An Idiots Guide To Islam" Insha Allah. YUP, bought that too!

Decent book on Marcus Garvey.

This Marcus Garvey biography is very short and readable book. This book gives a basic understanding of Marcus Garvey and his Universal Negro Improvement Association. Most of the book is factual and informative and explains Garvey's accomplishments and downfalls. My only criticism is the author E David Cronon is very bias against Garvey. The author does not seem to be able to give an objective assessment of Marcus Garvey. Cronon does not take into account the hostility of the white power structure against Garvey's movement. I would not recommend this book for any Garvey supporter.

Very informative.

This gave an incredible amount of background about a man who is largely ignored in American history. It's sad really, because his grand plans although never realized are exactly what is needed in the black community. Fragments of his teachings have been used/borrowed in later movements, but there hasn't been anyone that had such an impact as he had. It's incredibly impressive when you consider the time period.

"Golden Boy" eat your heart out- This is THE Wrestling

Whilst I love the classic struggles of Clifford Odets, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, and other great American playwrights, this world needs the new and the raw energy that young writers like Kristoffer Diaz bring to the table. "The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity" plays upon a popular cultural icon that many men, young and old, far and wide, from the 60's to now have been watching on their TV's- Federation Pro-Wrestling. It forces you into a world of crafted violence, to look at the hypocrisies, the celebrity, stereotypes, and things that people are wiling to give up to maintain a fiction that makes money. The title character may be the star of THE Wrestling in this fictional ring, but it is the work of Macedonia Guerra (Mace) that makes him the star. When a dazzling, smart-mouthed upstart named Vignesh Paduar (VP) crosses Mace's path, he sees a opportunity to create another great THE Wrestling star. However Edward K. Olson (EKO), the owner of THE Wrestling, is out to make a buck and what starts out as Mace's somewhat good intentions becomes a contentious new wrestling persona that rocks the ring and makes you wonder what is the cost and the power of playing to a cruel creation of national stereotypes.

If you like a play that makes you think about the world we live in- pick this up and consider the consequences of violent media on television from the point of view of the people who make it.

The untold story of the art of wrestling

Fun and nostalgic! This takes me back to my childhood and let's me know I that didn't outgrow wrestling, the business side ruined the art.

Vivid! I can see the color and spectacle as I read every word. Hilarious and intelligent read for wrestling fans and anyone who can appreciate a great underdog story.
