About the Author
Dr. Erin Mander is a curriculum consultant in Orange County, Florida, and teaches both the FTCE General Knowledge and Professional Examination classes through the University of Central Florida Continuing Education Program. Dr. Mander studied curriculum and instruction at Wheaton College (B.A.), Walden University (M.A.), and the University of Central Florida (Ed.D.). She is a certified teacher who has been working in education for 15 years.
Tammy Powell currently teaches both the FTCE General Knowledge Mathematics and the K–6 Elementary Education classes for the University of Central Florida Continuing Education Program and works as a math, science, and subject-area exam tutor for Mastermind Educational Consulting. Mrs. Powell is a University of Central Florida graduate and a certified teacher who has been working in education for 17 years. Currently a STEM lab teacher, Mrs. Powell has taught elementary, middle, and high school, specializing in math and science. She is certified by the State of Florida in K–6 Elementary Education, 5–9 Mathematics, 6–12 Journalism, and holds an ESOL endorsement.
Chris A. Rose is Assistant Division Director and Test Prep Director at the University of Central Florida’s School of Continuing Education. An Overview of the Test
Who Takes the Test, and What Is It Used for?
The FTCE-GKT is used by the State of Florida to assess knowledge of teacher certification candidates. If you do not achieve a passing score on the FTCE-GKT, don’t panic. You can take the test again, so you can work on improving your score in preparation for your next administration.
About Computer-Based Testing
The FTCE-GKT is offered only on computer at flexible times and locations throughout the year. Minimal computer and typing skills are required to complete the computer- based tests. You need to be comfortable with a Windows environment, using a mouse (including clicking, double-clicking, dragging, and scrolling), and typing at a rate that will allow you to complete the assignment in the allotted time (approximately 30 words per minute).
In computer-based testing, examinees complete the tests by selecting answers on-screen to multiple-choice questions and typing or recording a response to a performance assessment component. The FTCE-GKT requires the examinee to type a response to the essay assignment.
When Should the FTCE-GKT Be Taken?
The FTCE-GKT is usually taken immediately before the completion of a teacher certification program at a college or university. This gives candidates enough time to retake the test if necessary. Our practice tests will familiarize you with the format of the exam so that you do not have to go through the anxiety of learning about the FTCE-GKT during the actual exam.

Is There a Registration Fee?
Yes, you must pay a fee to take the FTCE-GKT. Fee waivers are available for candidates who are unable to afford registration. You must be enrolled in a college undergraduate program and must prove that you are required by a registered score recipient to take the exam. I bought this book SPECIFICALLY for help preparing for the reading section. As another reviewer points out, there are MISTAKES in the book, which is very frustrating. The SOLE TASK of these dingledorfs was to produce a book with good questions. Three "experts" publish a book of questions with MISTAKES in them. Besides the error the other reviewer named, they also often say, "in the first paragraph" or "in the second paragraph" when the question is actually about another paragraph. I hope to Christ that these people are NOT involved with writing the actual State question. I am going to tell all my fellow students to NOT buy this book. And I tell you, dear reader, the same!

I've used this same brand of study guide for Colorado's test and I really like that there are practice problems in each chapter and two practice exams in the back. I really do think it makes a difference in helping you prepare for the tests. ud

I ran this book by many English professors and found it to be horrible to use to practice for this test

This book is full of incorrect answers and mistakes with what the questions ask versus the explanations on the answers. I ran this book by many English professors and found it to be horrible to use to practice for this test. Thus, the reasons I have not passed the exam!! I realized I was getting the wrong preparation for a test that I need to retain my job.
