Excellent book of the nitty-gritty of Child Welfare practice

I've recently come across this book from England, which, unlike most of the child welfare literature focusing on policy and legal issues, gets into the nitty gritty of working in child welfare, both in terms of investigation and prevention. Ferguson calls this work "intimate child protection" and the complex relationships between social workers, children and families are discussed in detail, including the sensitive issues involved in abuse/neglect investigations and home visiting. The book is sprinkled with numerous case vignettes and references are made to Bion and the Winnicotts.
Check out the Table of Contents (in "search inside this book") which has such evocative chapter titles as "Bedrooms, Kitchens and More Intimate Spaces" and "The Car as a Space for Therapeutic Practice". And read the "first pages" (actually the introductory chapter) to get a flavor for Ferguson's evocative writing style.
Although the author is British, the book is quite accessible for US readers, especially social workers in child welfare and social work students. The book would make an excellent text in graduate social work programs.
